The Snaefellsnes peninsula has been tagged as a Mini Iceland, as it has a bit of everything: glaciers, fjords, cliffs, beaches, geothermal fields, jagged peaks and excellent bird-watching. The glacier-topped strato-volcano Snaefellsjokull is renowned for its mystical powers and is one of the most famous sites in Iceland. Snaefellsjokull National Park – Iceland's only National Park to extend to the seashore – covers an area of 170 km². Snaefellsjokull glacier towers majestically over the park, with trails of lava and signs of volcanic activity clearly visible on its flanks. Snow-mobile tours to the top of the glacier depart from Arnarstapi.
